Dusit Thani Plc (DTC) reported that it will arrange a meeting on September 24, 1996, at 2.00 p.m. to discuss the company's land expropriation made by the government. The meeting will be held in the Dusit Thani Hall at the Dusit Thani Hotel. In this meeting, Dr. Akasit Limsuwan was invited as an honorable lecturer. DTC was informed by a director of Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority that the authority will construct a subway electric train station at Silom in the area of the hotels parking lot. The project will last for five years. The construction will directly affect the company's hotel business. There is current legislation expropriating plots of land located at Chatuchak, Phathumwan, Sumpanthawongse, Bangrak, Sathorn and Klong Toey. The land will be used for a subway, passenger parking lot and businesses to benefit to the Metorpolitan Rapid Transit Authority. The legislation was effective August 29, 1996. Since then, legislation has been drafted by the Office of the Prime Minister accelerating the expropriation. This will authorize the authority to use the land without waiting for the expropriation Act. If the draft is approved by the cabinet, BTSC will have full legal rights to those plots. However, BTSC intends to inform the land owners 60 days in advance.
